Grade 1 Writers and Goal Setting
This week, I spent time in grade one, working with students on reading and writing. Our grade one teachers work so hard educating our students at Washington Oak. Mrs. Lupino was working with students this week on Johnny Appleseed writing. Students were learning how to make a statement about Johnny Appleseed and use evidence to defend that statement. After the students had time to write and illustrate their work, Mrs. Lupino had students share their writing with each other. During this sharing time, students gave their friends "glows" and "grows" for their writing. The "glows" are compliments about the writing. The "grows" are recommendations for how they could improve their work. This helps students highlight their work and set goals for their next writing piece. Please see the pictures below, illustrating the strong writing lesson happening in grade 1.
In Mrs. Pires classroom, students are working on goal setting in multiple content areas. In the beginning of the week, Mrs. Pires works with students on what they want to accomplish throughout the week. They set individual goals for themselves and discuss how they can reach those goals. Students write 1-4 steps for themselves for the week. Look at the great work below from Mrs. Pires' students.
We had a great Walk-A-Thon at Washington Oak! Thank you to the PTA for putting together a fun fundraising event. Students enjoyed walking with their friends and family. If you haven't had a chance to send in your donation forms, it's not too late! Please click on the link below.
Thank you to all the families that attended Open House. The teachers did an incredible job sharing information with parents. We appreciate the dedication of all of our families, It is important to all of us at Washington Oak that we work together with families to educate and help children succeed! Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. My goal is to continue a high level of communication with the Washington Oak community.
Grade 2 Mathematicians
In grade two, students were working on how to show a number in different ways, with tens and ones. In Mrs. Jacquard's classroom, students were watching a video lesson and then showing different ways to make the number 42 on the whiteboard. All students were engaged and excited to participate. In Mrs. Smith's classroom, students were using tens and ones at their table to show different ways to represent the number 24. We have mathematician's in our grade two classrooms at Washington Oak!
