Welcome to 2017!
Here are some important updates happening at Washington Oak.
A BIG welcome back to Mrs. Ingham! She is back on Tuesday teaching our preschool students. Thank you to Mrs. Lezette for all of her hard work since September.
We have many enrichment programs at Washington Oak this school year! Having before and after school enrichment allows our students to spend additional time focused on their interests.
K-2 Movement Club
The movement club is every Tuesday morning for students in grades K-2 with Mr. Lanctot. Mr. Lanctot is new to Washington Oak and is our Adaptive Physical Education Teacher. During the movement club, he has students exercising in a fun and active way! Students will have a chance to use some PE equipment and play cooperative exercise games.
Mrs. Jacquard and Ms, Alverez are running the drama club this school year. The club is offered to students in grades 3-5, after school, two days per week. This year, students will be performing Seussical the Musical! Get ready for dancing and singing in this play. Performance dates will be released soon, but expect the show towards the end of the school year. Students have been extremely enthusiastic about the play!
Students are able to gain an awareness of ways to use biodegradable, organic waste through composting and recycling. Furthermore, using scientific and mathematical tools students will be able to measure the amount to biodegradable, organic waste that is collected, composted, and recycled instead of going into the landfill. Students will also observe how the compost can be used to contribute to the growth of food in a local community garden. An Energy Fair will need to be scheduled in March for students and families to attend. Mrs. Estrella and Mrs. Gallagher are the leaders of this club.
Students in grades 4 & 5 meet after school on Friday to learn how to play chess with Mr. Colomb. Students engage in learning strategies and practice with different players in the club.
