Mrs. Mandese’s Oath to Washington Oak School I promise to work each day in the best interest of the students at Washington Oak. I believe all students are capable of learning at high levels and I will work to ensure each child’s success. I will not give up on a child or family, within the Coventry community. I will strive to inspire my colleagues to reach their highest level of success. I will continue to grow my practice each day, be reflective to feedback and never stop learning. I will continue to develop the most impactful teaching strategies, which help students reach their highest potential. I will work to ensure students and staff enjoy coming to our school each day and are highly engaged in learning. I will spend time in classrooms getting to know students and learning alongside them. I will smile and exude happiness each day I walk into these doors. It is about the kids, every day! 😊I promise to follow this oath for the students, educators, and community, here in Coventry.
1. Please be sure to let the office know if your child is going to be absent or will be picked up early.
2. Please provide the office with a reason why your student will be absent, when you call.
3. It is very challenging to dismiss students between 3:15-3:30. If you are picking up students for an appointment, please come before 3:15, or pick up students as a walker outside the gym doors.
4. We go outside when it is below 32 degrees, so please dress students in a winter coat, hat and gloves. (see below for outside recess information)
5. We have many items in Lost and Found. Please ask your child to check the lost and found area at lunch to see if any of their items are there.

Winter Recess Guidelines
As we enter into the winter season, we believe outdoor recess is an important and valuable part of the student’s day. Fresh air, exercise and time spent outside, provide students time to release energy and socialize with peers. Teachers agree that students perform better at school when they have an opportunity for vigorous outdoor play, so we try to get them out whenever possible. However, because there are times when it is not safe for children to be outdoors, we will be following the guidelines listed below to determine whether we will have inside or outside recess. If the chart is in yellow, we will spend time outside, but it might not be the entire 30 minutes.
It will be imperative that your child is dressed appropriately (winter coats, gloves, and hats) for the cold weather and prepared to play outdoors. Every child will need to wear a coat in order to go outside for recess.
We had a lot of exciting activities that took place at Washington Oak over the last few weeks. Check out the pictures of the events and lots of students having fun at Washington Oak. See below.

Let it snow! Let is snow! Let is snow!..........or if there's no snow, you can make your own with your science buddies.
2nd and 5th grade science buddies combined states of matter, baking soda (solid) and white hair conditioner (liquid) to make a new solid substance that resembles snow. Students explored with this new substance, making miniature snowmen, snow forts, etc.
Learning and fun go together with science buddies.
A BIG thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this winter wonderland laser event. Students were mesmerised by the light show and energizing music!!
