PARCC is going well in grades three through five. Students have been working so hard and making all of us extremely proud.
The latest kid craze appears to be ball bearing/ceramic bearing spinners. These are designed to entertain and can be very helpful as anti-anxiety, anti-stress fidgets.
For many students the spinners are becoming a distraction, pulling students off task in the classroom and at times these spinners are being used inappropriately. We have many fidget toys at school for students who need assistance with anxiety and stress. Teachers have access to these and will provide them as needed. We would appreciate if you could please keep spinners at home. Thank you.
Last week we will start our new PlayWorks program! The supervisory assistants and I attended a two day training on how to implement games and structured play in a healthy, fun environment. Using our Stop and Shop funds, we purchased $1,000 worth of new equipment for students to use at recess. We have created signs, a map and directions for different games! Each week we will have a new group game that one of the supervisory assistants will run for students.
The week has been very successful! Ask your child how they are enjoying the new problem.
Playworks’ vision is that one day every child in America will get to play—every day. We are changing school culture by leveraging the power of safe, fun, and healthy play at school every day. We create a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. We offer an essential opportunity for children to explore their imaginations, to connect with other kids, and to stretch and grow physically, emotionally and socially.
We all want our kids to have the best possible time at school. Often recess is the time of day that children either look forward to or dread.
